Can you believe it’s been 28 years since Big came out? (deep sigh) It reminds MANY of us of our youth. That piano scene — a classic. I live in New York City and it was pretty awesome to be able to take my son to that iconic F.A.O. Schwarz toy store on 5th Avenue and let him slide his way across that big Big piano. Sadly, the store closed down last year. Booooo! But, at least we have cinematic memories.
This past week, Tom Hanks has been out promoting his new film, Inferno, which comes out this Friday, October 28th (Spoiler alert, I am def going to see it, because I have a thing for the whole Robert Langdon books/films #TheMoreYouKnow). Along the way, he’s revisited the beloved classic that is Big. And, the results are so good.
First, the guys from Wong Fu Productions met up with Hanks and Inferno director Ron Howard for a chat. Yesterday, they released a video of that meeting and they got Hanks to rap his famous “Shimmy Shimmy Cocoa Pop” rap.
The gold starts at 3:30.
In case you feel compelled to sing along: “The space goes down, down baby, down, down the roller coaster. Sweet, sweet baby, sweet, sweet, don't let me go. Shimmy, shimmy, cocoa pop. Shimmy, shimmy, rock. Shimmy, shimmy, cocoa pop. Shimmy, shimmy, rock. I met a girlfriend - a triscuit. She said, a triscuit - a biscuit. Ice cream, soda pop, vanilla on the top. Ooh, Shelly's out, walking down the street, ten times a week. I read it. I said it. I stole my momma's credit. I'm cool. I'm hot. Sock me in the stomach three more times.”
And the original…
Then, last night on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hanks met up with good old Zoltar (played by Colbert)! He had one more wish for the old wish-giver, to be 30-years-old again.
Hanks explained, “I learned being older isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be — a lesson I’m constantly learning every day at my age. Just yesterday, I tried to jump on one of those big floor pianos and do a dance. I swear I heard my hip snap!”
Zoltar agreed if Hanks would read his script, Big 2: Zoltar’s Quest, and kindly pass it along to his son, Colin Hanks.
You know you’re totally going to watch Big again this week.
