It's taken me years to appreciate my body. There is nothing wrong with wanting to show it off.

Media Reacts To Blac Chyna With Slut-Shaming, But Stays Silent On Abuse Allegations

I can't help but speculate that if Blac Chyna were a white celebrity, feminists on social media would be up in arms at the mere suggestion of domestic violence. (Image Credit: Instagram/blacchyna)

Black women in abusive relationships are disproportionately killed by domestic violence, and if what Rob Kardashian is doing right now is any indication of his temper and inability to control his rage, then there is no telling what he will do next to Blac Chyna or what it would take to stop him.

Ask The Experts: Why Don't Guys Call Back If You Sleep With Them On A First Date?

Stop beating yourself up for the sh*tty behavior of males.

Stop Asking Your Partners How Many People They've Slept With

We shouldn’t be made to feel ashamed of our pasts, just because they’re different from what we want in the present. Image: Thinkstock.

I’m not writing this in order to get defensive about my number of partners, by the way. I’ve had sex with around 25 people since the end of 2012 and I’m perfectly proud of and comfortable with that number. However, asking someone you’re dating about how many people they’ve slept with is a question meant to make them feel ashamed.

6 Ways We (Accidentally) Teach Our Kids Rape Culture

If our kids hear us excusing rape or sexual assault in any way, they will internalize that message. Image: Krewr Studio/Pexels.

As moms and dads, we probably don’t talk directly about rape to kids, at least not until they’re older. But we’re still sending messages about sex and consent all the time. Because of that, we need to make sure we’re not teaching them some very dangerous lessons, even if just by accident.

However, the way the women in the ward were treated couldn’t possibly have made us feel safe or comfortable.

How STI Stigma Perpetuates Slut-Shaming

Slut-shaming is how we explain the gendered double standard of sexual respectability: It’s women taking flak for the sex we have, while men are applauded for simply “doing what men do.” Image: Thinkstock.

Four years ago, I could be found most mornings at the same café with the same blue notebook and a mug of hot coffee. I was trying to write the story of how I got herpes.

Getting Herpes Was A Gift

In STI support communities, many refer to the person who gave them herpes as their “gifter.” This might sound strange, since I’m sure a sexually transmitted disease is not a gift anyone wants. But, looking back on my past nine months with herpes, I think this is an apt term.
